The Fight to Repeal WEP and GPO
11/15/24 - Memphis Fire Fighters Association
(2024-11-15) This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023. The vote passed the House 327 to 75. This bill repeals the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO) and allows retired persons to receive their full Social Security benefits instead of being penalized because they receive a government pension.

Local 1784 Members Represent at IAFF Convention
08/30/24 - Memphis Fire Fighters Association
(2024-08-30) Nine delegates from Local 1784 recently attended the IAFF Convention in Boston.  There were over 4,000 delegates, alternates, and guests from IAFF Locals from across the United States and Canada conducting the business of the IAFF. The IAFF Convention is held every other year and is designed for members to chart the course of the IAFF for the next two years.

TPFFA leaders across the state have been working on this priority legislation for many years.

Ambulances left waiting hours to drop off patients at Memphis hospitals, firefighters’ union says

LOCAL 1784 WINS ANOTHER ARBITRATION CASE

(2020-12-23) Your union was recently informed that it won another arbitration case.  This case was filed on behalf of Driver Darriun McAdory, Engine 41.  Driver McAdory was suspended for 12 hours for an auto accident that occurred in June 2019.  Engine 41 was struck by a civilian vehicle while enroute to a call.

Memphis Citizens Pass Historic Sales Tax Increase

Memphis citizens voted on October 3rd to pass a one half percent sales tax increase to fund retirement and health insurance benefits for firefighters and police officers.  This culminates a year and a half campaign by the Memphis Fire Fighters Association and the Memphis Police Association.
